The Faith to Follow

Proverbs 3:5-8

If we don’t fully trust God, we may be reluctant to follow the Path he has chosen for us.  Even though he always leads us the right way, Our fears Or uncertainty could cause Us to side step his way and chose our own path. Proverbs 3:5-8 tells Us what’s required to follow the Lord and what the benefits will be.

(Vs. 5) God Commands Us to trust Him. Trust is a strong belief in someone’s INTEGRITY, ABILITY and character. This is the kind of confidence we are to have in the Lord. Then whatever he says or requires of Us, we will know with certainty that it is right. On the other hand, if we lack trust, we won’t follow Him and will find ourselves living outside the will of God.

(Vs. 6) To acknowledge Someone is to recognize him. Meaning we acknowledge that God has authority over our lives and he has the right to give us directions.

(Vs. 7) Do Not be wise in Our own eyes: fear God and turn from evil. To fear God is to recognize and honor Him as not only ruler of the universe, but the Lord and Savior Of Our Lives. If we truly believe this We’ll turn from Our Own Way and allow God’s way to lead us.

(Vs. 8) It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones. Everyday we are called upon to make decisions, and what we decide to do is based on whether we believe God, and that he has chosen the best possible path to follow.

Psalm 32:8-11

Because we live in a fallen World and our world is a complicated place, we all need guidance sometimes. The Lord Our God and Father of JESUS CHRIST. Is never too busy to listen to us when we come to him for guidance.

He’s given is a wonderful promise in Psalm 32:8-11 to encourage us when we are in need of his guidance. Listen to this Powerful Promise as God speaks through the Psalmist, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go.” This is a Personal commitment from God himself, if we come to him seeking and believing him, he will give us instruction and teaching for whatever situation we find ourselves in.

He is the ALPHA and OMEGA he knows your situation from the beginning to end.  The value of any promise depends upon the one who makes it, and this is a divine commitment made by God, who can do anything but fail.

The Promise is inclusive. It carries within it everything we need to know to make the right choice.

INSTRUCTION: First of all, he promises to instruct us with truth (V. 8) that’s more than you will get from the World, the world offers directions but they are full of errors.

TEACHING: When we open his word, the Lord teaches us and helps us to understand what it means, but it doesn’t Stop there we have to apply what we have learned, the Lord lets us see and hear his word which helps to make the right choice.

The Requirements of Obedience

Philippians 4:9, Proverbs 3:5-8

Obedience can be defined as doing what God says how he says, and when he says do it. All three of these aspects are required or it’s disobedience. To intentionally ignore what the Lord says and do what we want, the way we want is outright rebellion, and in essence we are telling him that we have a better idea. Obedience requires that we not lean on your Own understanding (v.5).

Meditate upon God’s Word: this means reading the Word, thinking about it, and asking God how to make this happen in my life. The world is constantly sending messages, advertisements to lead us astray, but when we make God’s Word a vital part of each day, our hearts and minds are protected and tuned in to the Lord so we can discern His guidance.

Be Sensitive to the Holy Spirit: God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit, when we accepted JESUS CHRIST as our Lord and Savior, Now one of his functions is to guide us into, All Truth (John 16:13).

Be Sensitive to God’s timing: Whatever the Lord tells Us to do is to be done according to His time table not Ours. Isaiah 64:4 tells us that the Lord acts in behalf of those who wait for him.

Accept Conflict: Sometimes obedience to the Lord results in conflict with others.  Peter and the apostles were victims of this, when they were confronted by the council they relied, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).
